About Watcho

Watcho is a free, read-only community map that shows reported public-safety incidents across Los Angeles County as color-coded pins. Tap a pin to see the date, time, neighborhood, and details of a report. No account or sign-in is required to use the app.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the app?

Open Watcho to see the full-screen map. Pins are color-coded by report type. Tap any pin to open its detail sheet. Use the search bar to look up an address or neighborhood, the legend to filter by report type, and the location button to center the map on your area.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Watcho is completely free and requires no account, login, or personal information.

Why does the app ask for notifications and location?

Both are optional. Notifications provide one daily summary when new reports have been added; location is used on your device to center the map. Watcho does not send your map latitude or longitude to its backend or use it to target alerts. You can decline either permission and still use the full map.

How is my privacy protected?

Watcho does not require an account and does not send your map latitude or longitude to Watcho's backend. Optional daily alerts store only an opaque push token and EN/ES language. Platform mapping and push providers process the technical requests needed to provide those features under their own privacy terms. You can delete Watcho's stored notification token by turning alerts off in the app. Earlier Watcho versions could send crash diagnostics to Watcho's backend; version 1.1.3 removes that transmission. What are the "Support Families" links?

Some reports include a link to a family's active GoFundMe campaign. Tapping it opens GoFundMe in your browser. Watcho never processes, receives, or intermediates any donation — all payments are handled entirely by GoFundMe.

The app isn't working correctly. What should I do?
